Bling for the Queen

Okay, so it doesn't sparkle, but I have to say I think the stuff we turned out for HRM turned out pretty damn cool. Cool enough that it hurt to let them go.

The little one I knitted with 12/2 silk and size 0000 needles, using elements and colors from HRM's device in submission. It's based on a small handful of extant 14th century relic purses from Sion and Chur cathedrals in Switzerland, .

The big one was a collaboration by the Textile Guild, of which I am the chief instigator (and guild head, to be precise.) It's handwoven from handspun and hand-dyed (with period natural dyes) wool, the strap is tablet woven in a period pattern from same, there are glass beads on the catch which were hand made for the project, it's lined with 100% linen fabric and hand-sewn with linen thread.

Cool, huh?

Credit where credit is due, in order of precedence:

Baroness Leonora made the glass beads
Mistress Maerwynn did the tablet weaving
The Honorable Lady Jeanne-Marie wove the cloth
Lady Savina (yours truly) spun the thread, sewed the bag, and wrote the documentation
my good friend Debbie dyed the blue and yellow wool (she's not SCA, but I love her anyway)

Gotta go - time to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - the new one. Maybe I'll post a review later.

G'night.
